California Proposition 65 FAQ:

What is Proposition 65?

Proposition 65 is the California Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986 Health and Safety Code Section 25249.6 et al. Any company that , sells or manufactures consumer products in California, is subject to Proposition 65. Because Report Footwear sells products in California, Report Footwear is subject to Proposition 65.

Proposition 65 requires warning labels on any consumer product that may contain any of 800-plus chemicals that the State of California considers a carcinogen or a reproductive toxicant. For many chemicals there is no definable amount of how much of these chemicals must be present to be considered harmful. In some instances, the State of California has set threshold levels of certain chemicals to be safe but in general the burden is on a manufacturer or seller to prove that exposure of those chemicals in their product pose no harm to the consumer.

Why does Report Footwear put the warning on boxes sold outside of California?

If a company's products are sold or are purchased outside the State of California and brought into California, the company may still be found in violation. Report shoes could be shipped to California from another state through mail order business and Report Footwear would still be subject to Proposition 65. Also it is VERY DIFFICULT to try to put warnings only on the SHOEBOXES FOR THE SHOES sold in California.

How come I don’t see this warning on everything I buy?

This is a California State Law and not a Federal Law. Companies that do not sell consumer products in California do not need to put this warning on their products.

Are Report Shoes Safe?

Our shoes are manufactured to meet federal and state laws for safety and restricted substances. The law is more about complying with the labeling requirement for Proposition 65 in order to protect Report Footwear against potential lawsuits in the state of California.

This online store is intended for audiences 13 years of age and older. All areas on the REPORT online store that accept personal information (email address, name address, gender, etc.) from a customer have an age verification field. If the customer is not 13 year of age or older, the information is not accepted or stored by the site.

We do collect customer information on those users who are 13 years of age or older in an effort to improve our customer’s shopping experience. We recognize that it must maintain and use customer information responsibly. The information collected is used to help us respond to customer inquiries, send emails about sales and events, contact contest winners and/or ship and bill orders. The information also helps us in determining what products appeal to our customers so we can better merchandise our site.

We may use customer information for marketing and promotional purposes. Each promotional email we send comes with a link that enables our customers to unsubscribe or remove themselves from our mailing list. We do not currently sell online customer information to any outside company or third party.
